There are some songs that everyone can relate to upon hearing it for the first time.  Whether it’s from your personal moment or someone you know or a story you have heard, “Peaked In High School” by Mercury Nashville rising start Priscilla Block takes everyone back to their younger years with an all too relatable lyrical experience.

The tune is written from the perspective of someone who wasn’t the most popular in school, and is directed at the one that cared more about image and less about honesty, integrity, and being kind.  As we grow into adulthood, we realize that so many aspects of our high school years fall in comparison to the things that really matter – friendship and respect.

“You played the part, you made the team

You were your own homecoming queen

I never got invited to your parties

You got the guy on Friday nights

I stayed at home and learned to write

You rolled your eyes at my guitar strings”

Block touches on those moments, but also introduces a moment of triumph over those who thought they were above her at one time, adding a playful, signature wink as an exclamation point to the track’s impact.

“You see my face on Billboard

I changed the number you’re still calling”

Written by Block along with Sarah Jones, Josh Beale, and Kate Hasting, the song is an ode to those who feel more grateful the school years are over than thanks for the good time.

With dates scheduled through the end of the year and into next year with Ashley McBryde on the “This Town Talks” tour, the Raleigh, NC native is gearing up for a busy and successful 2022.
