LAUREN WATKINS - Settling Things - Big Loud Records/Songs & Daughters

In today’s modern era of country music, most artists opt for the single-by-single approach that collectively approaches the release of an abbreviated EP as a formal introduction to the mainstream audience.

And then there’s Lauren Watkins.  The Nashville native and uber-talented singer-songwriter is set to release ‘The Heartbroken Record’, her unprecedented 17-song full-length debut record.  And while the album is still a few weeks away from its release, Watkins has offered a final preview with a brand-new single.  “Settling Things” is available digitally and on all streaming platforms now via Big Loud Records / Songs & Daughters.

As of her previous releases have done, “Settling Things” showcases her undeniable ability to tell a story, not only through her lyrics, but her vocal tone, delivery, as well as the supporting musical arrangements.  This is an ode and homage to small-town life, opting for a straight-forward lyrical approach in lieu of poetic metaphors.

“We’re all goin’ to heaven

But no one gets the hell outta dodge

The high heels mama lived in

Don’t fit but we’re stuck with

Settling down, settling scores

Living a life we shouldn’t settle for

We settle like rust on the chains of the porch swing

This town has a way of settling things”

Listed as the ninth track, “Settling Things” is released just weeks ahead of ‘The Heartbroken Record,’ which will be available to the masses on June 21st.  Having co-written all tracks on the record, Watkins takes ownership of this release from start to finish, showcasing her unique approach to country music, exposing elements of her music from influences including the likes of Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, and Sara Evans, as well as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.

Quickly becoming a household name over the years throughout the confines of the tightly-knit Music City community, Lauren is set to formally introduce herself to the wider mainstream audience in the coming weeks with ‘The Heartbroken Record,’ and the release of “Settling Things” does nothing but build greater anticipation for what we can expect from this talented songstress in the future.
