ERIN KIRBY - Leaving Eyes - Independent Release
While both “Redneck Rich” and “Raised In A Barn” layered intrigue and earned Erin Kriby solid placement on several artist to watch lists, the softened grip of “Pick Your Own Flowers” added definition to her catalog with its strong showing of her ultra-powerful vocals, balancing glimpses of soulfulness into her modern pop country flavor.
She now returns with her anticipated next single, “Leaving Eyes.”
Over a sweeping waltz infused melody, Kirby exudes confidence as she travels her incredible voice deeper into that soulful territory while fusing a 1970’s R&B tinged country flare into a throwback essence with modern enough touches to pull you in line by line as she sings through an opening verse with a tone of clearly understanding the crazy in love feeling that the girl across the room is radiating.
However, also knowing the type of protective walls that females often put up to guard their heart, Kirby reassures that this girl that has nothing to worry about, “I saw it plain as day when y’all walked in,” tying the smooth waver of her voice against her own fractured heart as the lyric expertly shifts dynamic to encapsulate tremendous depth when the chorus becomes a heartfelt letter to the new girl who’s now standing by the side of Erin’s ex:
“So girl don’t lose sleep
Worrying over just exactly what he’s thinking ‘bout
Cause you’re the only one he’s thinking ‘bout
He leans closer and closer
Hanging on to every word you say
Nobody ever seen him act this way
He’s head over heels
You can’t see how it feels
Cause those baby blues don’t tell no lies
Yeah, I’ve seen ‘em before
And girl, those ain’t his leaving eyes”
Examining the broken pieces of her own heart while watching the two across the room fall deeper into each other, Kirby confesses that it feels like an earthquake in her chest while maturely continuing to reassure the next girl that she has nothing to worry about, “Boys in that kind of love don’t break your kind of heart.”
With each next layer, Erin Kirby continues to hone in on her sound, discover the unique pieces of her vocals to strike the right heart chords, and impressively elevate her signature flares into the defining characteristics of who she is as a songwriter and artist. “Leaving Eyes” absolutely follows that same trend as Kirby hits unexpected levels while masterfully adding the next firm foundation to her stepping stones as she moves another leap forward on her path.
