JOSH TURNER - Somewhere With Her - MCA Nashville
With a catalog of hits that includes “Long Black Train,” “Would You Go With Me,” “Your Man,” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” country music’s resident bass-baritone crooner, Josh Turner, certainly needs no introduction.
But as he continues to tour on the back of those greatest hits, 2024 has also seen him start to layer the path toward his 10th studio album, This Country Music Thing (due August 16, 2024), already delivering the very well-received teasers, “Heatin’ Things Up” and “Down In Georgia.”
He now releases the third tease of the album, “Somewhere With Her.”
Written by Rhett Akins, Will Bundy, and Josh Miller, the song sits squarely in his comfort zone as the melody carries its slow dance feel over a soft waltz that recalls a 90’s country aura, perfectly suiting Turner’s voice as he glides a lyric of that crazy in love feeling when she’s always on your mind and you can’t get enough of her and the memories you’ve made; daydreaming about making more.
“I'm sorry, buddy, but I didn't catch what you said,” he confesses on the opening line, setting in motion the mind-wandering blissfulness he’s experiencing as his heartbeat’s flutter can’t seem to slow down and he can’t bring his focus onto anything but her.
Apologetically toned about seeming distant with a far-off look in his eye, being everywhere but in the current moment, he map dots his way through the first two choruses in a daydreamed state of mind that’s travelling him to:
“Somewhere with her on a California beach”
“Slow dancing on a back porch back in Tennessee”
“Stealing me a kiss in the Mississippi rain”
“Somewhere with her in the Alabama sun”
“Shooting stars in Caroline tryna count up everyone”
Utilizing the final chorus to inject the very essence of who he is as a country boy and a God-loving gentleman, he comparatively sings of being by her side to a slice of heaven on earth:
“I'm somewhere with her, close to Heaven as it gets
If there's a better place…Well, I ain't found it yet
In the middle of a kiss, like a picture in a frame
She's always in my arms even when she ain't
I'm somewhere with her”
“Somewhere With Her” is pure Josh Turner. From the modern throwback kissed melody to the in-love lyrics and vocal performance, this is a song absolutely built for him to sing and one that’s expertly designed for his fans to fall in love with as he continues to hype things that are still to come next month.
