MITCHELL TENPENNY - Started Stoppin' - Riser House/Columbia Nashville
Mitchell Tenpenny has become a household name amongst country music fans over the years, and with the impending release of his brand-new album, he is poised to take his career to the next level. With just days before the new record is available to the masses, the award-winning artist is dropping a new tune. “Started Stoppin’” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Riser House / Columbia Nashville.
Written by Tenpenny along with Ashley Gorley, Chase McGill, and Jordan Schmidt, the idea, writing, and formation of the tune came together almost instantly.
“We wrote this song altogether at Ashley’s beach out,” Mitchell said. “Someone said the phrase ‘started stoppin’ and it became our hook. It almost wrote itself. It all came together lyrically and sonically. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever done.”
A steady drum beat introduces the track to the listener, almost instantly followed by the quick, rhythmic R&B-influenced hooks and vibes alongside the rapping, jaunty lyrics delivered through Tenpenny’s trademark vocals.
“You quit loving me seven months ago
Last night I slept all night, that’s one night in a row
No, it ain’t been easy, but I’m doing the best that I can
So, you can’t call me up the way that you just did
Like you don’t need a thing, like we’re just two old friends
And I know, you think I’m ready, but girl, the way you wreck me, I ain’t”
This is as modern as modern country music gets, with influences of pop and R&B strong and present from start to finish, and Mitchell’s smooth vocals flowing meticulously and flawlessly alongside the pulsing beat. The CMA New Artist of the Year nominee and platinum-selling recording artist is now just days away from unleashing a whole new chapter of his career onto the country music world, and the fans are ready for it.
“Started Stoppin’” will appear on his third studio album, ‘The 3rd’, along with 19 additional tracks. Scheduled for a September 20th release, the record will also feature the current single “Not Today”.
Launching his Woke Up In A Dream headlining tour in Las Vegas earlier this week, Mitchell will be on the road through mid-November, playing venues from coast to coast. The trek will feature The Castellows on the first few dates with Dylan Schneider taking over the special guest honors for the remainder of the jaunt.
