ALEX MILLER- She Makes Dirt Look Good - Billy Jam Records

Since first entering our homes via American Idol Season 19, Kentucky native Alex Miller has diligently carved his niche with a style that’s blended his traditional roots and contemporary traces of his farm raised charm, earning high praise on singles “Don’t Let the Barn Door Hit Ya,” “Puttin’ Up Hay,” and the touching tribute to his granddad, “My Daddy’s Dad.”

On the heels of making his Grand Ole Opry debut this past summer and high-profile road dates opening for Ian Munsick, Emily Ann Roberts, Justin Moore, Tracy Byrd, and Alabama, the neo-traditionalist now delivers his latest offering, “She Makes Dirt Look Good.”

The song, co-written by Kerry Kurt Phillips, Phil O’Donnell, and Dusty Drake, laces its addictive, upbeat melody with a refreshing swarm of fiddle and steel that instantly gets toes tapping as Miller holds to his distinguishable characteristics while stylistically throwing it back to an era when tractors were sexy and mud was on the tires.

After using descriptives to outline his country bumpkin, farm boy aura, he cleverly then shifts into a series of creatively drawn play on words that leans simplicity against down-home charm as he admirably praises how his down-to-earth better half came into his life and shined up everything in it.

Revving his tractor engine, the second verse flirtatiously paints the picture of her country girl good looks - “Sittin' on a bale of straw, undershirt and overalls,” “She can take a John Deere hat, hang her blonde hair out the back and make the strongest man drop everything,” etc. - guiding note by note to the playfulness that ignites the lift of the chorus:

“She makes dirt look good, it's the strangest thing

She makes a tractor ride like a Cadillac

And homemade wine taste like champagne

She's so hot, she makes me look cool

And every time I'm with her, my chest gets a little bigger

I look a whole lot taller, and my shoulders they get broader

She makes this old farm feel like Hollywood

She makes dirt look good”

Shining the spotlight on his fun-loving side and ultra-big personality while striking the right chords with the farm grown kids just like himself, Alex says of the song, “I really wanted to give a nod to all my fellow 4-H and FFA buddies out there, and I figured if Kenny Chesney could make tractors sound sexy, then I could do the same with dirt.”
