SAM HUNT - Liberty - MCA Records Nashville

Multi-platinum superstar Sam Hunt continues to deliver what his fans want.  Last year, he played an acoustic version of a portion of a new tune he had recently written on social media, and fans have been pining for the song to be released ever since.  Flash forward to November 2024, and the Hunt is releasing “Liberty”, which is now available, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via MCA Records Nashville.

The stirring new track follows “Country House”, released this past spring.  This latest effort is rooted in a dream of the future, as Hunt envisions what life can look like with days focused on and filled with perseverance, purpose, and family.

As has been the case with his entire music catalogue to date, which has included some massive hits, Hunt’s new tune incorporates modern and contemporary elements of other genres and intertwines them into his trademark style of his own brand of self-proclaimed country music.

Hunt co-wrote the song with Zach Crowell, Chris LaCorte, Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne, all frequent collaborators of Sam’s since his early days of his career.  Over the years since he first made his debut in country music, he has been taking more ownership of his releases, from the songwriting to the producing and everything in between.  With every release, we see more of the musicianship of Sam Hunt, and he continues to keep us guessing with what his next song, album, or project will offer.

The musical approach bares resemblance to his past releases, with the free-flowing musical accompaniment proving the perfect backdrop for the quick, statement-like verses before embracing an emphatically-exuberant choral interlude.

“Baby, give me liberty or give me death

Forty hours and a day of rest

Autumn leaves on these county roads

Grab a hand, y’all, bow your heads

A bunch of kids, little fertile ground

Raise ‘em up right, pass it down

Fences keep the cattle in

But they can’t hold the souls of men”

Despite his undeniable success over the past decade, Sam’s vocals have been somewhat underrated.  This guy can sing when he wants to, and he puts his vocals on full display through the pivotal moments on this track, which promises to be yet another hit in an ever-growing catalogue of chart-toppers.

“Liberty” is the first track following Hunt’s recent ‘Locked Up’ EP, which featured his 10th career No. 1 hit “Outskirts”, as well as the aforementioned “Country House”, which is currently spinning at country radio.

Hunt recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of his 4X Platinum-selling debut album, ‘Montevallo’, while his Locked Up Tour recently wrapped with over 20 dates across the United States and Canada.
