JOHN MORGAN - Kid Myself - BBR Music Group
As we inch closer to the release of his debut album, John Morgan has unveiled his final preview of what is quickly becoming one of the most highly-anticipated new records of the year to date. “Kid Myself” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via BBR Music Group.
Written by Morgan along with Tyler Hubbard and Jordan Schmidt, the tune ebbs and flows its way through grief, heartbreak, forgiveness, and retribution.
Over the years, we have seen and heard the story of a talented and accomplished songwriter altering his/her focus to that of an artist career. Morgan may be the most recent and successful of this trend, as the fast-rising newcomer is adding to his career as a solo recording artist with the release of this new track that features two songwriters for which he garners the utmost respect.
“’Kid Myself’ was the first time I ever wrote with Tyler Hubbard,” Morgan said. “I was so nervous the night before because I knew I had to come into the writing room with a good idea, or he might never write with me again. Luckily, I threw out ‘Kid Myself’, and Tyler and Jordan both loved it. This song is about my life before I moved to Nashville and a past relationship that might have been the one – had I been ready for it. Ultimate though, it’s about forgiving yourself.”
Known for his toughness and grit and his sophisticated songwriting craftmanship, Morgan puts his talents as a writer and singer on full display with his latest tune. Smooth, clear vocals steal the limelight on this track, accompanied by an acoustic-guitar lead and a modern country melody that falls perfectly in the lap of fans of all ages. It’s a mid-tempo, bumpy vibe, one that will resonate with the listener long after the song’s conclusion.
“I was just a kid myself
Didn’t know better than to wish you well
Baby if you never could tell
I ain’t proud of how it all went down
If I could, I’d take it all back now
I’d be lyin’ if I said I wasn’t wishin’ you were missin’ me like hell
But I don’t wanna kid myself”
The release of “Kid Myself” comes nearly a month to the day from ‘Carolina Blue’, his debut album, being available to the world. Due out April 25, the record will feature 12 songs, all of which co-written by Morgan along with some of the biggest writers in the industry. Headlining the set is his smash hit single, “Friends Like That (feat. Jason Aldean)”, which is currently Top 5 at country radio.
As he continues to establish himself as an undeniably talented recording artist, Morgan is already well known and established as one of Music City’s most sought-after writers, penning tunes for the likes of aforementioned Aldean, as well as Jon Pardi, Dustin Lynch, and Thomas Rhett, among others.
In addition to the release of his album, Morgan will be playing the new tunes on tour throughout the year, with support dates set with Chase Matthew and also Kane Brown, as well as appearances at some of the biggest festivals in the country.
