There is an appealing confidence to Lauren Watkins’ songwriting: she rarely reaches for the obvious line when a more revealing detail will do. “Daydreams,” the Nashville native’s latest release, puts that instinct front and center. Released in August 2026 via Big Loud Records/Songs & Daughters, the solo-written track is the final preview of Watkins’ forthcoming 12-song album, If I’m Being Honest, due September 25. Rather than delivering another song about chasing the next milestone, Watkins pauses to consider what happens when you actually begin living the life you once imagined.

Musically, “Daydreams” is as understated as its title suggests. Watkins’ earthy, unhurried vocal rests against acoustic guitar, creating an intimate setting that leaves plenty of room for the songwriting to breathe. There is no oversized production demanding attention and no attempt to manufacture a dramatic moment. Instead, the arrangement feels deliberately open and conversational, allowing Watkins’ observations to carry the emotional weight.
