As we’re now moving into the final stretch of 2022, CCB Nashville continues to prove week in and week out that they’re an independent label to keep your eye on thanks to solid single releases from their talented artist roster every Friday as part of the labels ambitious #newmusicfriday initiative.

One of the biggest surprises of the year has been the emergence of Jamey D.

Since releasing his debut single “Workin’ My Way Back Home,” he has continuously impressed with well-crafted songs that have told great stories, tugged on our heartstrings, and boldly toed a very topical line, all while introducing us to the signature grit that’s naturally built into his vocals and instrumentation driven melodies that have leaned across country music borders to borrow from the rock and heartland infused genres.

But one of the strongest aspects where Jamey has been able to excel, which has been a factor to making his songs instantly connect with the listening audience, is his ability to tap into nostalgia and get people reminiscing on their own stories as he’s shared his; for example, what he did with his single “Nights Like This.”

That nostalgia chord is aptly struck again with his newest single, “Memory Lane.”

Isn’t there just something about the way that going back to your small hometown invokes so many memories as you look around and see that not much has changed? This is something Jamey D perfectly hits upon as he paints small-town pictures with lines in the first verse such as:

“The old town square still looks the same.”

“The lights are on bright for the Friday night football game.”

But there’s one memory that he doesn’t want to remember; the one that left him broken hearted, which is where this song really takes its shape.

Jamey laments on how he doesn’t want to relive the pain and revisit something that wasn’t meant to last, while trying to fight his broken-hearted emotions that seemingly come flooding back when he’s faced with the armory where they used to dance, the spot where they first fell in love, etc.

What I love about the crafty writing of this song, is that as much as he’s fighting his old memories, by the time he pushes into the bridge he’s standing on the line of losing the battle as the music softens to a hush around his vocals and matches the emotional moment of when he sees the Baptist church where he thought they’d be married one day.

Jamey D has a certain knack about his songwriting that immediately takes the listener on a journey into their own memories, pulling emotions from somewhere deep inside that they may have suppressed so that they never had to face. That’s exactly what “Memory Lane” accomplishes, giving Jamey D another very strong showing as he puts an exclamation point on the month of October for CCB Nashville.
