DYLAN MARLOWE - You Did It Too - Sony Music Nashville

Country music’s very foundations are rooted in a transparent honesty that resonates unbridled emotions with the common man, whether that be through songs about falling in love, dealing with a broken heart, lifting a hometown pride, or experiencing pure frustration.

As his small-town anthem “Boys Back Home” was rocketing up the charts and raising a red solo cup to late-night bonfires and the way he was raised, the song took a negative hit through a review from a publication like ours and it struck a nerve with Dylan.

In a moment of redemption and finding clarity in anger, he fueled his way through his varying emotions by putting pen to paper and pouring into what would become his newest release, “You Did It Too.”

Combining raw emotion and his gifted abilities to slap truth-filled realness into his craft, Marlowe managed to not only strike the definition of the genre, but delivered what could be his strongest, most mature song to date.

While this could have absolutely veered away from his small-town upbringing based on the negativity in the review that spawned this, he instead stays firmly planted on it, embracing the small-town life that he grew up with while further describing it in a boastful, hometown pride manner that provides a fist bump to the many who grew up just as he did.

Laced with a backing track that provides an atmospheric, nighttime in the country ‘round the campfire essence, he leans on descriptives through each of the verses to enhance the simple life snapshots that make up the very being of who he is today with mentions of reeling in fish with a 3 ought hook, mama dropping boiled peanuts in your Coke, holding a hand me down gun in a pine tree stand, keeping bacon grease in a mason jar, and gentlemanly holding open the car door for your girl before taking her home and kissing her on the front porch.

Flipping the script as he slides into the chorus, he refreshingly stamps his bold retort toward the previous review by stating that if you didn’t grow up doing the things like he’s mentioned in the verses then you don’t have the right to criticize that backroad, homegrown way of life.

Though “You Did It Too” is certainly a personal love letter to his own hometown, Dylan Marlowe showcases his incredible songwriting prowess by describing it so loosely that it hits just right with the small-town kid from Anywhere, USA.

Marlowe effectively steps through his own angry situation to provide a nostalgic, heartfelt look at what so many of us are still craving for today when we see all the negativity swirling around us, giving him an uber-strong connection factor that will make this song an instant fan favorite, essentially turning a negative to good.
