The country music industry is full of hopeful newcomers who try to find the right connections, the right audience, and the right songs. And while there isn’t necessarily a foolproof blueprint for them to follow, we feel that when an artist can find a song that will connect who they are at their core with the listening audience, that’s the type of connection that can catapult them forward the most.

That’s exactly what Lance Curtis has done with his new single, “Keep On Looking.”

A catchy vibe in the rhythm of the guitars through the intro, lace together with the distinctive sound of keys to quickly move you into the melody as they transition to give room to Curtis’ crisp vocals.

Though lyrically this is bent towards a potential budding relationship and Curtis is simply putting who he is on the table, there is also something that digs deeper than surface to reveal what he believes in, his likes and dislikes, and the morals and values he carries that derive from his decisively southern upbringing.

He instantly introduces himself through a series of lines in the opening verse that sing of him being a blue-collar type of guy who says what he means, sticks by his woman’s side, says yes sir and yes ma’am to his elders, etc.

He then utilizes the second part of the song to further define who he is by singing of liking an old porch swing, pickin’ guitar, a glass of sweet tea, churchin’ on Sunday, and floating in a tube on the river in the moonlight.

On the back of the verse ending line that comes after listing his attributes, “If you ain’t into that,” he warns that he isn’t going to change so she needs to keep looking if that’s not what she’s wanting as he slides into the sway along vibe of the chorus where he continues cleverly listing things about himself before reiterating his warning in the hook:

If you don’t like trucks, and you don’t like Hank

Catchin’ large mouth bass off the creek bank

If you don’t like the taste of this southern cookin’

Better keep on looking.”

While Lance Curtis has been releasing new music over the past year, including “Land of the Free, “Heart That Matters,” and “Small Town America,” “Keep On Looking” combines its enticing, catchy rhythm with lyrics that allow him to give us a very honest snapshot into who he is off the stage, effectively introducing himself to new listeners and connecting with them (and his fanbase) on a personal level.
