CCB Nashville has been one of the most ambitious, go-getter labels throughout the year with their consistent releases every Friday as part of their very bold #newmusicfriday initiative. However, it wasn’t just about new songs from their artist’s each week, but rather it was about letting the songs define the unique characteristics of each individual act as they created a substantial amount of buzz in front of a core audience that will define their next chapter.

While past successes gave us somewhat of an idea of what to expect from Cash Creek, Megan Mullins Owen, and RT Johnson, it’s Jamey D that’s been the surprising break out.

Over the course of the year, the man who many initially first recognized as the emcee of the Cash Creek Club Live, has worn his heart on his sleeve, shared his story with us through song, and hit us with some of the most solid lyrics we’ve heard this year as he’s redefined his visibility by becoming a singer/songwriter who we eagerly anticipated hearing from.

Though he’s tilted his modern kissed style into traditional country sensibilities on his previous releases, especially in his story driven songs, in many ways “Somewhere Past Remembering” (his newest release) introduces us to a much different look in that it drips with purely traditional flavor through its structure, prominent steel guitar, and whiskey-soaked, bar stool style that’s reminiscent of the dusty honky-tonk bred era of the 1970’s.

While many songs of this nature stay bent on temporarily drinking away a memory of a past love, and this one does make you initially believe that it will be more of the same with its opening line, “It might be the empty bottle staring right back at me,” Jamey D cleverly reverses the familiar, worn-out idea into something that is intriguingly more of a goodbye note to her and their past as he fully embraces moving on to someone new that’s come into his life.

Admitting that over time he’s come to understand that it’s not good for him to hold on to her and their past any longer while transparently confessing that he’s spent many nights in tears while drinking their memory away, he then shifts into the “silver lining” as he optimistically reveals that he’s discovered every bad dream has an end, that he’s not wondering where she might be anymore, and that he’s now “somewhere past remembering, holding on to someone new.”

Jamey D has been a refreshing breath of fresh air to the country music scene since releasing his debut single “Working’ My Way Back Home” this past January. He’s since used all his song releases to connect several different emotional tugs with the listener’s hearts, while building a solid foundation that’s boldly introduced himself and his songwriting abilities to a vast audience.

“Somewhere Past Remembering” is a very interesting l st song of the year from Jamey as it swerves outside the expected norm from him to give us a look that is either going to act as a period to end his incredible 2022 or be a comma that now sees him shifting into a more straight-ahead, traditional based style into 2023. Either way, he’s once again skillfully left the listener anticipating what comes next just as he’s done all year long.
